Description
Offered at auction is a late 19th century stick pin set with a finely hand engraved carnelian banded agate portrait cameo of appears to be the portrait of a noble Greek or Roman lady. The cameo is finely engraved and in excellent condition with no damage I can see. The subject of the cameo is illusive but is definatly f a noble lady since she wears a "stephanie" type crown. This probably an idealized portrait of a Roman empress, possibly Livia , Augustus wife. I leave it up to the viewer/buyer to decide which ancient noble personage is intended. The Cameo measures approximately 17mms by 13mms with the frame surrounding the cameo measuring approximately 20mms by 16mms. The pin itself is approximately 65mm long. Though this Cravat pin is hallmarked 10 on its back and acid tests as 10K solid gold. The "stop" or safety on the pin in not gold it is gold plated brass.
The stick pin, with out the "stop", weighs approximately 3.4 grams.
