Description
This listing is for a striking woman's festive folk costume from central Ukraine. The outfit comes with a white cotton embroidered chemise, black cotton dress with embroidery on skirt section, black cotton embroidered apron, black cotton embroidered vest, floral wool shawl, and multi-strand plastic bead necklace. Dates to the mid-20th century. While there are some minor damages and the costume is not in perfect condition, as a full outfit it displays beautifully and would be entirely suitable for both wear and exhibits. The shawl is the most damaged of the garments, but once folded and tied around the head the flaws are not visible. Each of the embroidered garments features floral motifs in harmonized colors that are also repeated in the flowers on the shawl creating a perfectly matched ensemble. A note regarding condition: All of the costumes and textiles that I sell are vintage and have typically seen decades of use resulting in expected wear and tear that add to the history and authenticity of each piece. In case of above average wear, I try to list any significant damages and heavy signs of use in the above description. Depending on the age, materials, and condition, I will often hand-wash more durable, colorfast cotton and linen elements, but embellished garments, heavier wool pieces or items made from silk or fine fabrics are sold in the original, unwashed condition. Small holes or stains, missing sequins/beads, worn trim, and other marks related to standard wear are common and do not detract from the value of most pieces. Please keep in mind that a vintage textile or garment in very good condition might still show signs of use, storage and age. Unless otherwise noted, all of the items listed for sale are in very good, stable condition and are suitable for use, wear or display.
